This blog started out as a recollection of my trip around Europe in 2010-11. That trip was inspired by the thought of a reunion with my cousins. However, being the busy adults they were, in the midsts of discussions, they were forced to drop out. Now where did that leave me? Did I still want to go it alone, when that was the issue that had stopped me from travelling all those other times? Seeing their situation, I knew I didn't want to look back and wish that I had travelled when I had the time. So on that rare stroke of decisiveness, I bought my ticket, just in case I reconsidered (which I usually did). And that's all there is to it. This blog is to document the worldly travels of Hayden as he explores the unknown.

Mission: To have the most amazing time seeing the world whilst I'm still young enough to not care so much about the future.

Tower, Windsor, Stonehenge, Bath...packing so much in...

Day 20: Finally went to see the Tower of London, and it was amazing!! I'm really cut that I didn't get there earlier because I was only able to be there for three hours before they closed for the day (at only 4:30pm). But I love the Tower!! The history behind it is so interesting, and the stories behind all the beheadings that took place in there, as well as the torturing in the dungeons really had me enthralled in the place. Had to speed through the second half since it was 4pm and there was only half an hour left for me to explore so much more. This is what you get for sleeping in (but London weather really does make you just want to stay indoors all day).
After I got kicked out of the Tower of London, I walked along the Thames and came to Tower Bridge (which I mistakenly thought was London Bridge, and as a result misdirected two tourists lol). Apparently Tower Bridge is the big fancy one, and London Bridge is just an ordinary boring pink bridge. Also did a video on Tower Bridge, in which I call it London Bridge several times, whilst trying to put on a British accent. Needless to say, it was a massive fail. After replenishing my energy at KFC, I joined the Grim Reaper Tour and headed around the East End of London. Really cold, which added to the spookiness of the tour I guess. Kinda wish I hadn't researched Jack the Ripper beforehand because it would have made those stories along the way so much more interesting had it been the first time I had heard them. Anyways, returned home to find Van massively exhausted from cleaning the apartment all day, so I helped out by wiping the floors. And yes, I mean wiping. Not mopping. Wiping. With a cloth. On my hands and knees. But it's a small price to pay for free accommodation for which I am eternally grateful.

Day 21: Today. First early morning I've had in so long. Probably since my very early departure from Milan on Day 2. Had to head to Victoria Coach Station to catch my coach to Windsor, Stonehenge and Bath. Was gonna head to the Apollo Theatre to check out whether there was a line for the box office, but couldn't cos I was running late. And by late, I mean 20 minutes early. But I have this weird thing where I start panicking and really have a massive fear of being left behind. It's something I can't control, but I guess it's always better to be early than late. After a 45 minute drive, we were at Windsor Castle. Kinda cool because there was a thick fog hanging around, which gave the whole place a mystical feeling. Bit boring since it was really just like any other castle I'd been to, because the State Apartments were closed today for renovation, and it's in the apartments where they have all the cool stuff. Instead, I saw Queen Victoria's dollhouse, and explored yet another chapel. I mean, I enjoy the architecture and everything and the history behind it all, but there's only so many chapels that I can see before I get massively bored. Got back onto the coach, and 75 minutes later, we were at Stonehenge. This was a stop that really could have been done in 10 minutes. All you can do there is just take a photo. That's all it's good for. We were there for 45 minutes, and all I could do was just walk around the thing. It was nice to look at, but not enough to take up 45 minutes. Coach again, and 60 minutes later, at Bath. Now this place was cool. Saw the ancient Roman baths, which are now green cos no one cleans it and algae grow in it. Got some really nice photos there too. Another thing that annoys me is that you can't rely on others to take your photo for you. It amazes me how many people don't know how to frame a photo. And I always have to smile and say "yeah it's fine" cos it would be rude to ask them to retake cos that's saying "you suck at taking photos", so in the end, I'm always taking self-shots. It's one of the things that really makes me wish I was travelling with someone. That and having someone to talk to. I'm fine with every other aspect of solo travel.

Anyways, just got back home from the day trip. Must be getting some sleep now so I can wake up early tomorrow morning to go line up for Wicked tickets. I have to see a show in London's West End before I leave, and tomorrow is my last chance. Even if I don't manage to get cheap tickets, I'm willing to pay full price for tickets (obviously not front row of course, but a bit back where it's not as expensive).

HBL signing out from London, UK. Cheerio!!
