This blog started out as a recollection of my trip around Europe in 2010-11. That trip was inspired by the thought of a reunion with my cousins. However, being the busy adults they were, in the midsts of discussions, they were forced to drop out. Now where did that leave me? Did I still want to go it alone, when that was the issue that had stopped me from travelling all those other times? Seeing their situation, I knew I didn't want to look back and wish that I had travelled when I had the time. So on that rare stroke of decisiveness, I bought my ticket, just in case I reconsidered (which I usually did). And that's all there is to it. This blog is to document the worldly travels of Hayden as he explores the unknown.

Mission: To have the most amazing time seeing the world whilst I'm still young enough to not care so much about the future.

Adios Madrid...

Day 9: So I thought I was going to post once I got to London, but I have a bit of time now before I have to leave for the airport. I actually have 4 hours since I had to check out by 10am, and now I'm just sitting here blogging. There's a guy in my dorm who never seems to leave the room, besides to have a cigarette now and then. Every single time I enter the room, he's there on his laptop. I'm not sure whether he's a traveller or not. He's Japanese though. But he has an annoying alarm which goes off every morning and just leaves it to ring until it stops. And then it goes off again 5 minutes later. And he's still asleep. Glad to finally not have to share a room with him anymore. Plus the room really stinks.

Went on the tapas tour last night. It was really fun. Not as much food as expected, but the quality was amazing. It was also the first time I've tried sangria. Didn't really like it at first, but it grew on me by the 3rd or 4th drink. Went to this one place that was famous for serving oxtail with chocolate. In my mind, I was expecting to dip an oxtail into a cup of chocolate like a churros. Not what I expected. It was just a few pieces of meat in this sort of pumpkin puree (or I think it was pumpkin). I couldn't even taste the chocolate. But yeah, I was kinda disappointed. But the rest of the night definitely wasn't a disappointment. At our last tapas bar, the tour guides could finally have a few drinks after the tour had officially ended. They had to cover up their New Europe shirts though (something I also had to do as a Yellow Shirt lol). But they're awesome guys. Both from the UK and not wanting to return. A Canadian woman from the tour also joined us. Found out that she used to be a high-flying Wall Street executive, but she quit her job after gainning all that money so she could travel. It was an awesome way to spend my last time in Spain. And so cheap too!! Six beers and three wines for only 13 euros!!

So it's now 10am and I've already checked out. Stored my luggage for 2 euros. Ready to head out and take in my last few hours of Spain. I'll definitely miss this place.

HBL signing out from Madrid, Spain. Hasta que nos volvamos a encontrar!!
