This blog started out as a recollection of my trip around Europe in 2010-11. That trip was inspired by the thought of a reunion with my cousins. However, being the busy adults they were, in the midsts of discussions, they were forced to drop out. Now where did that leave me? Did I still want to go it alone, when that was the issue that had stopped me from travelling all those other times? Seeing their situation, I knew I didn't want to look back and wish that I had travelled when I had the time. So on that rare stroke of decisiveness, I bought my ticket, just in case I reconsidered (which I usually did). And that's all there is to it. This blog is to document the worldly travels of Hayden as he explores the unknown.

Mission: To have the most amazing time seeing the world whilst I'm still young enough to not care so much about the future.

London baby...

Day 9: I'm now in London, staying at Van and Alan's place. The trip over was OK. Once again, there was a discrepancy with the number of people checked in and the number of people actually on board which caused a bit of a delay. They sold tickets during the flight for bus and train journeys once we left the airport. I asked for a bus one, and didn't check. Turns out he sold me a train one and by the time I realised, it was too late. With the bus ticket, it would have taken me straight to Marble Arch which is where I needed to go, but the train one only took me St Pancras International train station. However, I thought it would be OK since I had also bought an Oyster Card (prepaid travel card which you swipe every time you get on a train, bus or tram). I could just train it to St Pancras, and then use the card to take the Tube to Marble Arch.
If you've been following my blog, you'll know that things just seem to always go wrong for me. Sure enough, once I got to London, I found out that the people of the "Underground" were striking and so no Tube trains were running. And since I didn't have any British pounds with me so I couldn't take a cab. Luckily the place where Van and Alan live is quite central and so there were heaps of buses running there. So glad that I had bought an Oyster Card, because otherwise I would have had to find somewhere to exchange money, which would have been hard since it was around 6pm (or I would have had to go back to the airport, and get a crappy rate).

Anyway, I caught the bus and found the place pretty easily. They're right opposite Hyde Park which is awesome. Looks like I'll be spending a few hours sitting in there. I also found out that there are cheap theatre tickets here since apparently the West End is the second biggest area in the world for theatre. You just gotta line up at a booth and see what remaining tickets there are on sale each day for a reduced price. Will definitely be seeing Wicked. Finally. Can't wait to explore London tomorrow. I've got a whole map and a specific route that Van has given me which will take me to all the main tourist spots around this area. I think my washing is done so I'd better hang it up to dry. And yes, it's 11:30pm. But I need clean clothes to wear tomorrow.

HBL signing out from London, UK. Jolly good show chap!!
