It's now 3pm on Day 8, and I'm waiting to head out on my tapas tour. I haven't really had much Spanish cuisine since I've been here. Had some paella the first night I got here, but that was included in a buffet (for only 10 euros!!). So I guess today will be my first true experience of a Spanish meal.
I got an offer for dentistry today. It's a weird feeling. I kinda made my peace with not getting in, and now that I've received an offer, there isn't really feeling associated with it. Just neutral feelings. I guess it was always meant to be a back-up option. Now if I get an offer for Masters in Org Psych, then I'll be overjoyed. Judging by the date that they said they would annouce offers, I should be in either Slovenia or Italy. But as for dentistry, I'm supposed to accept within 10 days via email. Still working that out because it's a bit weird and everything is so confusing right now.
As for Madrid, I went to explore the Bullfighting Museum today. Although it turned out I had to pay to enter, and being the cheap Asian that I am, I decided that I didn't really want to see the museum. Saw the outside of the place though which is pretty impressive. Was gonna head to the Museum for the Blind, but by the time I got there, it would have closed for the day. Hoping to head to Museo del Prado tonight after my tapas tour since it's free from 6-8pm. But aside from that, it seems like I've seen quite a bit of what Madrid has to offer. Obviously if I were staying longer, I would have a chance to explore the outskirts of the city, but given that I'm only here for two days and two nights, I think I've explored most of central Madrid. Really happy I found this hostel which is in the absolute centre of Madrid.
Found a really busy bakery/sweets shop. Went inside and was amazed by the amount of sweet goods available. Bought this huge truffle type chocolate thing for 1.70 euros. Absolutely scrumptious. I'm thinking of going back and buying another four or five of them. They taste like chocolate mousse (but really good mousse) coated in chocolate powder, and it was almost the size of my palm. I still can't stop thinking about it lol.
My SIM card has locked and refuses to unlock meaning my phone can no longer be used. I can't even get into it to access my contacts. So annoying. Will have to buy one in London so I can at least have something to use in cases of emergencies. Might be a problem when I get into London because I was meant to message Van (my brother's friend) when I got there. She lives in London with her husband Alan, and they have graciously offered to let me stay with them. Very much appreciated!! But I've got their address so it should be OK. I can always just wait on their doorstep lol.
So last night in Madrid. Although I didn't get to see Barcelona, I think Madrid more than made up for it. Originally Madrid wasn't on my route, but because the French strikes were happening, I decided to head to Madrid so I could fly to London. So in the end, I guess it worked out. No Barcelona but Madrid was awesome. I will post tomorrow when I'm in London baby!!
HBL signing out from Madrid, Spain. Hasta la vista, baby!!
A simple blog detailing the exploits of a solo traveller trying to make the most of his time travelling the globe.
This blog started out as a recollection of my trip around Europe in 2010-11. That trip was inspired by the thought of a reunion with my cousins. However, being the busy adults they were, in the midsts of discussions, they were forced to drop out. Now where did that leave me? Did I still want to go it alone, when that was the issue that had stopped me from travelling all those other times? Seeing their situation, I knew I didn't want to look back and wish that I had travelled when I had the time. So on that rare stroke of decisiveness, I bought my ticket, just in case I reconsidered (which I usually did). And that's all there is to it. This blog is to document the worldly travels of Hayden as he explores the unknown.
Mission: To have the most amazing time seeing the world whilst I'm still young enough to not care so much about the future.
