Well it's not long now before I hop on a plane and head home. I have four days left in Switzerland, and I don't really know what I'm gonna do with my time left. I've spent the last week or so here already, and I've hardly left the house lol. I've been spending most of my time online, which isn't the best use of my time, but I'm just tired of travelling. I did go to a really good restaurant which was famous for its chicken. So good. But aside from that, I haven't left the house for anything touristy.
Thought I'd just do a post to take up some time, since I'm waiting for an episode of HIMYM to stream. I'm just gonna compare my planned schedule of my Eurotrip with what I actually did, and also calculate my finances and see how that stacked up to my overall budget.
So here's a comparison of what was planned and what actually happened. The destination on each day was where I spent the night. If there are two cities, then I did a day trip out and came back.

As you can see, there's not a lot in common with what I had planned and what actually happened. Very early on, I realised how crazy my itinerary was, and resolved to just plan only one city in advance (also because I lost bookings when things didn't go according to schedule). Free accommodation and the awesomeness of London and Paris meant that I stayed much longer than planned, and as a result Ireland, Slovenia, Croatia and Hungary were cut from my trip. Even with the route I actually took, I still felt like I was rushing. Will definitely need to come back and do another trip to see the rest of Europe, and possible revisit the places where I felt like I breezed through.
Now for my expenditure in Europe. I kinda don't wanna do this since it'll show how much I've spent lol. I know I'm under budget since I have money left, but regardless, I know that this trip will have cost me a lot of money, and I never like it when I know I've used a lot of money. It's hard to control those primal Asian thoughts lol. Well, let the calculations begin.

Cash Expenses: $3368
Credit Expenses: $482

Memories: Priceless
Well, looking at the daily expenditure, I'm impressed and annoyed at the same time. I had enough money for a daily expenditure of €75, and I've pulled in at €41. Looking at that figure, I should have splurged a bit. I could have eaten a lot better or even upgraded to a nicer hostel once in a while. Nevertheless I did enjoy myself. I guess this leftover money will be put towards my next overseas trip lol. I've got a few more days here (I think it will add possibly an extra $200 to the total). That means I will have been in Europe for 3 months for just under $7000AUD. I'm $3000 under budget so I'm happy. Granted, I did spend quite a while in free accommodation (47 out of 86 days in Europe, which included 3 days in a ski resort!!). Wow. I didn't realise how long I was living for free. I guess that was where I cut down on costs. At least I'll have money to survive on when I get back home lol.
Well that took longer than expected. My episode probably finished streaming ages ago. This is the first time I've done such "analytical" work since my thesis. Anyways, no plans for tomorrow or the day after. I'm probably just gonna sit at the computer all day. The only things I do need to do are buy chocolates to bring back as gifts, do laundry and start packing. Anyways, enough thinking for one night. I'm gonna go and watch my episode now.
HBL signing out from Emmenbrücke, Switzerland. Eurotrip's coming to an end!!
PS. Was looking at stats for my blog and saw that someone had googled quite an odd request and my blog popped up. I'm wondering who that person is lol. Please come forward lol.
A simple blog detailing the exploits of a solo traveller trying to make the most of his time travelling the globe.
This blog started out as a recollection of my trip around Europe in 2010-11. That trip was inspired by the thought of a reunion with my cousins. However, being the busy adults they were, in the midsts of discussions, they were forced to drop out. Now where did that leave me? Did I still want to go it alone, when that was the issue that had stopped me from travelling all those other times? Seeing their situation, I knew I didn't want to look back and wish that I had travelled when I had the time. So on that rare stroke of decisiveness, I bought my ticket, just in case I reconsidered (which I usually did). And that's all there is to it. This blog is to document the worldly travels of Hayden as he explores the unknown.
Mission: To have the most amazing time seeing the world whilst I'm still young enough to not care so much about the future.
